Bumrah back to No.1 Rank in Tests, Jaiswal and Kohli rewarded
After a stellar performance in Perth, Jasprit Bumrah has not only achieved a new personal best rating but has also reclaimed his position as the No.1 bowler in the latest ICC Men’s Test Bowler Rankings.
During the inaugural match of the ICC World Test Championship series, Bumrah secured eight wickets, leading India to a 295-run victory over Australia and earning the Player of the Match title. His exceptional performance allowed him to surpass South African speedster Kagiso Rabada and Australian bowler Josh Hazlewood, regaining his top spot in Test cricket rankings.
Earlier in February, Bumrah had topped the rankings following a nine-wicket performance against England, and he briefly regained this status in October after some noteworthy performances against Bangladesh, before Rabada overtook him once more.
Mohammed Siraj, Bumrah’s teammate, also advanced in the rankings, moving up three places to 25th after taking five wickets against Australia in Perth.
Beyond the top 10, three West Indies pacers are making significant strides. Jayden Seales has moved up three places to 11th, Kemar Roach has climbed four spots to 17th, and Alzarri Joseph has ascended three places to 29th, following their commendable performance in the first Test against Bangladesh in Antigua where they collectively snagged 14 wickets.
In the same match, Bangladesh’s Taskin Ahmed rose 16 spots to 51st after a six-wicket haul in the second innings.
In the Test batter rankings, England’s Joe Root continues to lead, but India’s young talent Yashasvi Jaiswal is now closing in after scoring a formidable 161 in the second innings against Australia. This effort pushed him up two spots to second, establishing a new personal best rating of 825, trailing Root by 78 points.
Travis Head of Australia has also moved up, reaching 10th after an 89-run innings in Perth, while India’s Virat Kohli has jumped nine places to 13th following his 30th Test century.
In terms of Test all-rounders, Indian players Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin hold the top two positions, although neither played in the recent match against Australia. Meanwhile, Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan has risen to joint third after his all-round performance against the West Indies.
Additionally, the latest ODI rankings reflect changes following the initial two matches of Zimbabwe’s home series against Pakistan. Veteran Sean Williams has re-entered the batter rankings at 43rd after scoring 23 and 31 in his first two 50-over appearances in over a year.
