Gautam Gambhir to return to India due to personal reasons
India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, is set to return to India from Australia amidst the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to personal reasons. Despite his temporary departure, Gambhir is expected to rejoin the team well before the commencement of the second Test in Adelaide on December 3.
According to the Indian Express, a BCCI source confirmed, “Gambhir has informed us that he will be traveling back home and will join the team before the start of the second Test. He has cited personal reasons, and the BCCI has accepted his request.”
In preparation for the Adelaide Test, India is scheduled to play a two-day pink ball match against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra starting November 30 (Saturday). This game is designed to help the team acclimatize to the conditions expected in Adelaide.
Fortunately for India, regular captain Rohit Sharma has returned to the squad in Australia. In Gambhir’s absence, Rohit, along with coaches Abhishek Nayar, Morne Morkel, T Dilip, and Ryan ten Doeschate, will manage the team’s training sessions and oversee the preparations during the tour game.
India currently leads the five-match series 1-0, following a decisive 295-run victory in Perth on Monday.
