Urvil Patel after batting for Gujarat during a domestic T20 match in SMAT

Urvil Patel smashes Third-Fastest T20 century by an Indian

Gujarat captain Urvil Patel scored a stunning 31-ball century against Services on the opening day of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Hyderabad. His explosive knock set up a comfortable win for Gujarat at the Gymkhana Ground.

Services posted 182 for 9 after opting to bat first. Gujarat replied with a ruthless assault as openers Urvil Patel and Aarya Desai charged towards the target with a 174-run opening stand.

Urvil remained unbeaten on 119 off 37 balls, smashing 12 fours and 10 sixes. It is the highest T20 score of his career and another addition to his growing reputation as one of India’s fastest scorers in T20 cricket.

Urvil Patel in IPL

The Gujarat skipper, who was retained by Chennai Super Kings for IPL 2026, had impressed in the previous IPL season as well. He struck 68 runs at a strike rate above 200 in 3 innings, including one two-ball duck. He had gone unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction. CSK then drafted him in as a replacement for Vansh Bedi.

Urvil Patel hit 4 sixes for CSK debut against KKR in IPL 2025.

Urvil Patel has been a standout performer in the domestic T20 circuit. He topped the sixes chart in the 2024-25 SMAT season with 29 sixes in 6 innings and jointly holds the second-fastest T20 century record by an Indian with Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad opener, Abhishek Sharma.

The record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian was scored off 28 balls against Tripura in 2024. He followed it up with another 36-ball ton in the same tournament, cementing his status as a rapid-scoring specialist. With this century, he now holds the fastest and the third fastest T20 centuries by Indian players. His 28-ball ton is also the second fastest hundred in all of T20s globally.

Urvil now has 3 T20 hundreds and 4 fifties in 51 innings, scoring 1349 runs at a strike rate of 179.62. He has smashed 70 sixes and 151 fours, meaning nearly 75% of his T20 runs have come in boundaries.
