22 Centuries in A Day, Vijay Hazare Trophy Creates History
The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025/26 saw a historic opening day as 22 centuries were scored across 18 matches, the most ever on a single day in the tournament’s history.
The day featured one double century and 21 hundreds. Out of these 22 centuries, only 4 came from players who have represented India, while domestic batters dominated the scorecards.
This shattered the previous record of 19 centuries, which was set twice on 12th December, 2021 and again on 3rd January, 2025.
Vijay Hazare Trophy Headlined by Kohli, Rohit & a Double Ton
Former India captains Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma marked their List-A return with centuries.
Kohli scored 131 for Delhi against Andhra Pradesh, registering his 58th List-A century. With this knock, he became the second Indian batter after Sachin Tendulkar to cross 16,000 List-A runs.
Rohit followed with 155 for Mumbai against Sikkim. At 38 years and 238 days, he became the second-oldest centurion in Vijay Hazare Trophy history.
Among other India internationals, Ishan Kishan smashed 125 for Jharkhand against Karnataka, reaching his hundred in just 33 balls. Devdutt Padikkal hit 147 for Karnataka against Jharkhand, taking his List-A average over 82. However, Padikkal is yet to make his ODI debut for India.
22 Centuries Also Feature Young Stars
The standout domestic performance came from Swastik Samal, who scored a mammoth 212 for Odisha against Saurashtra. It was only the eighth double century in Vijay Hazare Trophy history.
Close behind him was Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who blasted 190 off just 84 balls for Bihar against Arunachal Pradesh.

It was his first senior non-T20 century and it also made him the youngest List-A centurion.
