Daren Sammy is the only captain the lead a side to two T20 World Cup titles

Players to Win the T20 World Cup Twice

India are one of only three teams to win the T20 World Cup twice. They first lifted the trophy in the inaugural season in 2007 under MS Dhoni. They won again in 2024, led by Rohit Sharma. That ended a 17-year wait for their second T20 title.

West Indies won the tournament in 2012 in Sri Lanka and again in 2016 in India under Daren Sammy’s inspirational leadership. They were the first team to win the title two times. England also won twice, in 2010 and 2022, under Paul Collingwood and Jos Buttler.

No team has won consecutive T20 World Cup titles or even three titles. No host nation has won the tournament either. India have the opportunity to do it all this time around.

In the 2026 edition, Zimbabwe’s Brendan Taylor is the only participating player who was part of the 2007 tournament.
