India Defeat Pakistan in an Easy T20 World Cup Clash
Colombo woke up under grey skies on the day of cricket’s biggest match. There was tension in the air even before a ball was bowled in the T20 World Cup clash between India and Pakistan.
The build-up had more politics than cricket. Pakistan had earlier decided to boycott the fixture in solidarity with Bangladesh. Bangladesh had been removed from the tournament after refusing to play matches in India. Pakistan later reversed their decision.

Security around the stadium was tight. The Sri Lankan special task force was deployed. Multiple security checks were in place. Hotels were packed. Even fake jerseys saw price hikes on the streets.
At the toss, there was no handshake between captains Suryakumar Yadav and Salman Ali Agha. The atmosphere felt tense. However, former players like Rohit Sharma and Wasim Akram were seen greeting each other warmly off the field. In another corner, Harbhajan Singh, Misbah Ul-Haq and Ramiz Raja had a cordial conversation in the media area.
Once the game began, the focus finally shifted to cricket.
India Dominate Pakistan in 2026 T20 World Cup
India extended their dominance over Pakistan in the T20 World Cup with a 61-run win in Colombo.
The head-to-head record in T20 World Cups now stands at 8-1 in India’s favour.
India also registered their ninth successive win in completed matches against Pakistan.
After weeks of uncertainty about whether the match would take place, India sealed their spot in the Super 8 stage with a commanding performance.
The match turned in India’s favour early. Opener Ishan Kishan smashed 77 off 40 balls on a turning pitch. Of the first 88 runs scored in the match, 77 came from Kishan’s bat.
It was Kishan’s second consecutive fifty in this T20 World Cup. He was aggressive from the start. He hit cleanly in all directions before being bowled by Ayub in the ninth over.
India posted 175-7. Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh added late runs to push the total.
Pakistan needed 176 to win. That proved too much.
Indian Bowlers Seal Another T20 WC Victory
Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah struck early in the chase.
Hardik dismissed Sahibzada Farhan with a wicket maiden in the first over. Bumrah then took 2 wickets in the next over. He removed Saim Ayub and Salman Agha.
Babar Azam managed just 5 runs before Axar Patel bowled him. Pakistan collapsed under pressure. Mohammed Nawaz and Faheem Ashraf also fell cheaply.
Usman Khan scored 44, but it was not enough. Pakistan were bowled out for 114 in 18 overs.
India won by 61 runs.
Hardik bowled 3 overs. Shivam Dube was not required with the ball.
T20 World Cup Rivalry: More Political Than Sporting
The match had no major flashpoints. There were no handshakes after the final ball. The tension off the field seemed stronger than the contest itself.
India move into the Super 8 stage as defending champions from 2024.
Pakistan must now beat Namibia on Wednesday to secure their place in the Super 8.
The rivalry remains intense. But on this night, the cricket was one-sided.
