T20 World Cup: India face West Indies in Do-Or-Die Clash
The T20 World Cup 2026 Super Eight group stage comes down to one final showdown. India will face West Indies in a must-win match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The progress criteria is straightforward. The winner moves into the semi-finals. The loser goes home.Â
For their group, South Africa have already secured their semi-final spot as the only unbeaten side in the tournament. Both India and West Indies have lost only to South Africa in this group.
West Indies sit second in the Super Eight table with a net run rate of 1.791. India are third with an NRR of -0.100. India’s heavy defeat to South Africa hurt their net run rate. However, they bounced back strongly with a big win over Zimbabwe.
Both teams have won 5 of their last 6 matches. In the last 5 head-to-head meetings, West Indies have won 3, while India have won 2. Four of those five games were won by the chasing side.
From the other group, England have already qualified with two wins in two Super Eight matches. New Zealand have one win and one no result. Pakistan have one loss and one no result. Sri Lanka are out of contention.

Jasprit Bumrah and Axar have 7 wickets each. Pandya and Dube have picked up 5 wickets each.

West Indies Team News
West Indies lost to South Africa after SA chased 177 in 16.1 overs. However, their fightback from 83/7 showed strong lower-order batting capability. Like India, West Indies also bat deep, in fact deeper until number eight.
Shai Hope has scored 185 runs in 6 matches at a strike rate of 139, though he has lacked consistency. Shimron Hetmyer and Sherfane Rutherford have powered the batting unit consistently in the middle order. Hetmyer has 221 runs, the highest for West Indies in this tournament, while Rutherford has 161 runs. Both have struck at over 180.
Rutherford and Hope have continued their batting form from the SA20 where they reached the finals with Pretoria Capitals last month, finishing among the top run scorers of the season.

Opener Brandon King has scored just 92 runs in 6 matches, which has been the only area of concern. Rovman Powell and Jason Holder have contributed 100 runs each lower down the order. Holder strikes at 176.27, while Romario Shepherd has a strike rate of 156.86.
Shepherd (52*) and Holder (49) strengthened the lower order in the last game. Gudakesh Motie leads their bowling with 10 wickets at an economy of 7.75. Akeal Hosein and Matthew Forde have 6 wickets each. Holder has 8 wickets, Shamar has 7 and Shepherd has 6.

What to Expect in IND vs WI T20 World Cup Match
This T20 World Cup clash is likely to be a high-scoring game. Both teams crossed the 250 mark in their last matches. Eden Gardens traditionally supports aggressive batting. Expect to see sixes being hit from both sides as it could well decide the game.Â
5 of the top 6 six-hitters in this World Cup come from these two sides. Hetmyer (17 sixes) and Rutherford (13) lead for West Indies. Kishan (12), Pandya (12) and Dube (11) lead for India. Hetmyer has hit the most sixes in a single T20 World Cup edition. Additionally, WI have Hope, Holder and Shepherd while India have Suryakumar, Abhishek and Samson, all capable of hitting sixes if they get going.
If the match gets washed out due to rain, both teams will get 1 point each and qualification will come down to Net Run Rate. In that case, West Indies currently have a better NRR, so India will not qualify.
