The UCL Round of 16 delivered several big results as Europe’s top clubs took a major step towards the quarter-finals.

Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain all produced dominant first-leg performances.

Defending champions PSG recorded a strong home win against Chelsea. Real Madrid also secured a big advantage after Federico Valverde scored a hat-trick against Manchester City.

Arsenal, who had won 8 out of 8 matches in the league phase, were held to a 1-1 draw by Bayer Leverkusen. And the story of this UCL season. Bodo/Glimt continued their impressive campaign with a big clean-sheet win over Sporting CP.

Bayern Munich Dominate Atalanta

Atalanta 1-6 Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich produced one of their most dominant performances of the UCL Round of 16.

Josip Stanisic opened the scoring with a tap-in to give Bayern the lead. Serge Gnabry and Michael Olise then struck quick goals to make it 3-0 inside the first 25 minutes.

The German champions kept attacking in the second half. Nicolas Jackson scored on the counterattack before Olise added his second goal with another impressive strike.

Substitute Jamal Musiala scored Bayern’s sixth goal midway through the second half. Atalanta managed a late consolation goal when Mario Pasalic scored in added time.

Galatasaray Edge Liverpool

Galatasaray 1-0 Liverpool

The Turkish side will travel to Anfield with a narrow advantage after defeating Liverpool in Istanbul.

Mario Lemina scored the only goal of the match in the 7th minute. He headed the ball into the net after Victor Osimhen redirected Gabriel Sara’s corner into his path.

Both teams created chances in a fast-paced game. Florian Wirtz and Davinson Sanchez threatened during the first half.

Liverpool almost equalised in the second half when Alexis Mac Allister shot just wide. Hugo Ekitike also came close but goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakır produced a superb save.

Barcelona Hold Newcastle Late

Newcastle 1-1 Barcelona

Barcelona scored a dramatic equaliser in stoppage time to draw with Newcastle.

Lamine Yamal converted a penalty with the final kick of the match. Aaron Ramsdale dived the wrong way after Malick Thiaw fouled Dani Olmo.

Newcastle had looked set for victory. Harvey Barnes scored in the 86th minute with a first-time shot after a precise cross from Jacob Murphy.

Earlier in the match, Barnes also hit the inside of the post with a curling effort. However, Yamal’s penalty ensured Barcelona left for the second leg with a draw.

Atletico Madrid Take Charge Against Spurs

Atletico Madrid 5-2 Tottenham

Atleti gained a huge advantage after a powerful attacking display in the Spanish capital. 

A 22-minute burst produced 4 goals for the hosts. Marcos Llorente, Julian Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann were quick to punish defensive mistakes from Tottenham. 

Robin Le Normand also scored after Guglielmo Vicario parried the ball from a corner.

Tottenham responded with goals from Pedro Porro and Dominic Solanke. However, Alvarez added his second goal on a rapid counterattack.

PSG Beat Chelsea in High-Scoring UCL Clash

Paris Saint-Germain 5-2 Chelsea

Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain took a big step toward the UCL quarter-finals with a strong home win over Chelsea.

Bradley Barcola opened the scoring with a powerful half-volley into the top corner. Malo Gusto equalised for Chelsea.

Ousmane Dembele restored PSG’s lead on the counterattack after Filip Jorgensen pushed another effort onto the post.

Chelsea again equalised through Enzo Fernandez. Vitinha then made it 3-2 before substitute Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored twice late in the match.

The Georgian forward first struck a powerful shot and later tapped in another goal to give PSG a 3-goal cushion for the second leg at Stamford Bridge.

Real Madrid Beat Manchester City

Real Madrid 3-0 Manchester City

The Spanish Giants gained full control of their tie after a brilliant performance from captain Federico Valverde.

Valverde scored a first-half hat-trick to give Los Blancos a 3-0 advantage.

He opened the scoring after receiving a precise pass from goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Valverde rounded Gianluigi Donnarumma and finished calmly. 

7 minutes later he scored again with a powerful left-footed strike. He completed his hat-trick before half-time with a well-taken volley.

Vinicius Junior had a chance to add another goal but his penalty was saved in the second half.

Bodo/Glimt Continue Fairytale UCL Run

Bodo/Glimt 3-0 Sporting CP

Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt continued their impressive UCL campaign with another strong performance.

Sondre Brunstad Fet opened the scoring with a penalty. Ole Didrik Blomberg doubled the lead just before half-time.

Kasper Hogh added a third goal in the second half. It was his fifth goal in his last 5 Champions League matches.

Bodo/Glimt have now won 5 consecutive matches in the competition.

Arsenal Escape Season’s First UCL Loss

Leverkusen 1-1 Arsenal

Arsenal rescued a draw at the BayArena with a late penalty.

Gabriel Martinelli had the best chance in the first half when he hit the crossbar.

Leverkusen started the second half strongly and scored within one minute of the restart. Robert Andrich headed in from a corner after Martin Terrier tested David Raya.

Arsenal looked set for their first Champions League defeat of the ongoing season. However, substitute Noni Madueke won a penalty after a quick run down the right.

Kai Havertz converted the spot kick to make it 1-1.
