Pretoria Capitals recorded their first win of SA20 2025/26

Pretoria Capitals Aim for their First Home Win

Pretoria Capitals will take on Durban’s Super Giants in their fourth match of the SA20 2025/26 season. The contest will be Pretoria’s second home game of the campaign and momentum will clearly be with the Capitals going into this fixture.

Pretoria are coming off a morale-boosting win against defending champions MI Cape Town. It was their first win of the season and also their first away victory.

The Capitals ended 2025 on a high by securing a bonus point as well. They set a massive target and sealed the result with a dominant all-round display from Sherfane Rutherford, a performance that lifted the entire side.

The Capitals had lost their first two matches before turning things around in their third outing. That win has pushed them to fourth on the points table. Durban’s Super Giants sit just one place above them in third, making this clash important for both sides early in the season.

Historically, the matchup has been tight. The two teams have faced each other 5 times across the last three seasons.

Pretoria Capitals have won 2 matches, while DSG have won 3. All of Durban’s victories have come while batting first, while Pretoria have shown flexibility by winning once batting first and once while chasing.

Pretoria Capitals – Team News

Pretoria Capitals showed their batting depth and bowling discipline in a statement win over MI Cape Town, a performance that could rebuild and define their season. The openers fell early, and Pretoria were under pressure at 38 for 3 in the fifth over. What followed changed the game. Shai Hope and Wihan Lubbe steadied the innings with a crucial 88-run fourth-wicket stand, taking the Capitals to 126 for 4 in the 15th over.

Hope finished at 45 off 30 and Lubbe 60 off 36. Both were dismissed before the death overs, but that opened the door for a brutal finish. Dewald Brevis and Sherfane Rutherford added a stunning 84 runs off just 27 balls, including 72 runs in the final three overs. Pretoria surged to a total of 220 runs, with Rutherford finishing unbeaten on 47 from 15 balls. Brevis smashed 36 off 13, an innings that would have made AB de Villiers proud.

The pair even struck 6 consecutive sixes, two at the end of the 18th over and four at the start of the 19th. Rutherford and Brevis are the only two batters with 200+ strike rate so far this season.

Defending the total, Pretoria were ruthless. MI Cape Town collapsed from 100/3 and 113/5 to 135 all out, losing by 85 runs with 34 balls to spare. Keshav Maharaj delivered a composed spell of 3/28 in four overs, while Rutherford capped a perfect game with 4 wickets in 3 overs to earn Player of the Match honours.

Durban’s Super Giants – Team News

Durban’s Super Giants have had a mixed start to their SA20 campaign. After 3 matches, they have 1 win, 1 loss and a no result. They won their opening game but come into this match after a heavy defeat against Joburg Super Kings. In that outing, DSG were bowled out for just 86 runs while batting first. JSK chased down the total cautiously inside 13 overs. Their highest individual score in that match was only 22, underlining the batting struggles.

On paper, Durban still boast one of the strongest batting line-ups in the tournament. The top five includes Kane Williamson, Devon Conway, Jos Buttler, Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen. However, Buttler and Klaasen have batted way below their usual T20 standards. Conway is leading the run charts for DSG with 92 runs at a strike rate of 184. No other batter has scored a fifty so far.

The bowling unit has shown flashes. Eathan Bosch leads the attack with 5 wickets, while David Wiese and Simon Harmer have 2 wickets each. Both departments will need a better performance against the Pretoria Capitals.
