Pretoria Capitals aim for a direct final spot in Qualifier 1
Pretoria Capitals sealed their playoff spot earlier in the league phase. However, their final position depended on the result of Paarl Royals’ last league match against Joburg Super Kings.
If Paarl Royals had beaten JSK, they would have finished in the top two. A loss would push Pretoria Capitals into the top two on the back of a superior net run rate. Sunrisers Eastern Cape had already locked a top-two finish with the highest points tally and the best NRR among all qualified teams.
With the final standings confirmed, Pretoria Capitals will now face Sunrisers Eastern Cape in Qualifier 1, finishing second on the SA20 2025/26 points table.
The winner of the qualifier will book a direct spot in the final. The loser will get another chance, taking on the winner of the Eliminator between Paarl Royals and Joburg Super Kings.
Head-to-Head Record
In the last 5 meetings between the two sides, Sunrisers Eastern Cape have won 3, while Pretoria Capitals have won 2 games. Eastern Cape have beaten Pretoria in both encounters this season.
Overall, Sunrisers Eastern Cape lead the head-to-head 5–4. Pretoria have won 3 matches while defending totals. Eastern Cape have won 3 while chasing.
However, Pretoria Capitals head into Qualifier 1 with stronger recent form. They have won 4 of their last 5 matches. Sunrisers Eastern Cape have managed 2 wins, with 1 match abandoned in their last 5 games.
Pretoria Capitals’ Dramatic Comeback
After turning their second around in the second-half phase of the league, Pretoria Capitals pulled off one of the comebacks of the season in their last outing. They ended up defeating Joburg Super Kings by 21 runs after collapsing to 7 for 5 at one time in the first innings.
JSK’s seamers dominated early under overcast conditions. Daniel Worrall and Wiaan Mulder ripped through the top order inside five overs. From there, Dewald Brevis and Sherfane Rutherford turned the game around.
The duo scored 103 runs off 74 balls. Their partnership lifted Pretoria to a respectable total of 143/6. Rutherford finished unbeaten on 74, while Brevis scored 53 in that match.
Rutherford also became the first Pretoria Capitals batter to score 300 runs in a single SA20 season. He now has 317 runs, averaging 79.25, and sits as the third-highest run scorer this season.
In the second innings, Keshav Maharaj controlled the middle overs. He removed James Vince, Matthew de Villiers and Mulder to reduce JSK to 54 for 4.

Maharaj extracted good turn and kept the pressure on throughout his spell. Lizaad Williams then struck twice in the final over to finish with 3 wickets.
Maharaj, Williams and Gideon Peters now have 9 wickets each this season.
