The SA20 season may be long over but Pretoria Capitals players are making their presence felt T20 cricket leagues. A number of Pretoria Capitals stars are currently making an impact in IPL 2026.

The franchise had just come off another impressive SA20 campaign in January 2026. They finished second on the table but lost the final to Sunrisers Eastern Cape. It marked their second final defeat against the same team. They had also reached the final in the inaugural season.

With that, Pretoria Capitals became only the second team, alongside Sunrisers Eastern Cape, to finish in the top two twice in SA20 history.

Several players from the squad delivered match-winning performances in SA20 and carried that form into the T20 World Cup 2026, which began on February 7.

Their IPL partner franchise, Delhi Capitals, has had a mixed season so far. At the midway stage of IPL 2026, DC have 3 wins and 3 losses in 6 matches, placing them mid-table.

Here’s a closer look at how key Pretoria Capitals players are performing in IPL 2026.

1. Lungi Ngidi: Leading the DC Attack

6 matches | 7 wickets | Best: 3/27 | Avg: 29.42 | Eco: 8.70 | SR: 20.28

Lungi Ngidi has been Delhi Capitals’ top wicket-taker this season. His return to DC has worked well so far.

Ngidi had earlier played for DC in 2022 after moving from CSK. He then won the IPL title with RCB last season before returning to Delhi for IPL 2026.

Ngidi started the season strong with 3/27 against LSG in DC’s opening win. He followed it with 1/34 against MI in another victory. Against GT, he bowled a tight spell and returned 1/24, even though DC lost.

He went wicketless with 0/41 against CSK but bounced back with 2/39 against RCB. In the latest game against SRH, he finished with 0/41.

Ngidi has delivered in phases and remains DC’s most reliable wicket-taking option so far.

2. Sherfane Rutherford: MI’s Go-To Impact Player

5 innings | 103 runs | Best: 71 | Avg: 34.33 | SR: 194.33*

Sherfane Rutherford has played a key role for Mumbai Indians despite limited opportunities.

He is not among MI’s top five run-scorers but has made a strong impact in the lower middle order. He is the second-highest six-hitter for MI with 11 sixes, just behind Rickelton (12). Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock have hit 8 sixes each.

Rutherford came into IPL 2026 after a solid SA20 season with Pretoria Capitals, finishing as the second highest run scorer behind Dewald Brevis.

His season started quietly. He did not bat in the first match and scored 5 off 7 in the second. In the third game, he came in as an impact sub and smashed 25 off 8 balls at a strike rate of 312.50.

He followed it up with a standout knock of 71* off 31 balls at a strike rate of 229.03, hitting 9 sixes. In the last two matches, he scored just 1 run each.

Despite fewer balls faced, Rutherford has delivered high-impact cameos.

3. Dewald Brevis: Interrupted Start for CSK

2 innings | 41 runs | Best: 41 | Avg: 20.50 | SR: 124.24

Dewald Brevis’ IPL 2026 campaign faced an early setback due to injury. CSK have had a number of injuries with the latest being Khaleel Ahmed and Ayush Mahtre, both ruled out of the season.

Brevis had joined CSK as a replacement last year and impressed in limited chances. He also had a strong SA20 season with Pretoria Capitals, finishing as the highest run-scorer with a century in the SA20 final.

Brevis missed the first 3 matches of the season before making his comeback. He returned in CSK’s fourth match but did not get to bat. He contributed with a catch in the field as CSK beat DC.

In his first innings of the season, he scored 41 off 29 balls at a strike rate of 141.37 while batting at No. 4 against KKR. CSK won that match.

However, in the next game against SRH, he was dismissed for nough. Brevis is yet to find rhythm but has shown glimpses of his ability.

Pretoria Capitals influence visible across IPL 2026

Pretoria Capitals players continue to influence games across teams in IPL 2026.

Ngidi has led DC’s bowling unit. Rutherford has delivered explosive finishes for MI. Brevis, despite injury, has added depth to CSK’s middle order.

Their SA20 form has clearly translated into the IPL stage.

A key clash is also coming up. Sherfane Rutherford and Dewald Brevis will face each other on April 23, when Mumbai Indians take on Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium
